Narratives about the challenges of mothers with autistic children

This article is the result of the Final Work of the Specialization Course in Special and Inclusive Education of the Faculty of Mountain Region – FARESE. It aims to analyze the narratives about the challenges faced by mothers of autistic children. The research is a case study with a qualitative approach. The locus of the study was the city of Camaçari, which is located in the metropolitan region of Salvador-Bahia. The research’s subjects were two mothers of autistic children and the instrument used for data’s collection was the semi-structured interview and observation. It is based on important theoretical contributions such as (Sousa, 2018) which addresses the impacts of the diagnosis of an autistic child on women's lives, Huguenin and Zozim (2016) which emphasize the law of hope and Vieira (2019) which presents autism, the characteristics and the importance of early diagnosis. The conclusions point to the more sensitive view regarding the reality of these mothers who start living at the detriment of their children. They often get sick and still need to gain strength to face a prejudiced society that does not bother to offer to the families and to the children the necessary support for a better psychosocial development.
