In this article, considerations are developed about the theories of Art/Education and methodologies used in teaching Theater in Basic Education, specifically for young high school students. The concept of art as experience is initially presented based on the theories of John Dewey and Paulo Frère exposed through the reading of Ana Mae Barbosa. . Then, we point out issues related to the choice regarding the instrumental approach and the aesthetic approach as an option that will determine the entire creative path of a didactic assembly and the final result of the show. So, we talked about aspects of the creative process; cognitive and pedagogical aspects of Art; and also about the triangular proposal of Barbosa's art teaching. Some methodologies for teaching Theater are also discussed. Some authors are used as grounds, such as Barbosa (2012), Boal (2009), Desgranges (2003), João Francisco Duarte Jr. (1981), Japiassu (2001) , Ostrower (2014) and Spolin (2010, 2014). We conclude by pointing to the importance of a liberating pedagogical practice for the student and his/her surroundings.
